Cyprus Residency / Cyprus Investment Program

Living in Cyprus full-time is a dream for many, and the great news is that it's very possible - whether you're from the EU or a non-EU country with both temporary residency and permanent residency permits available.  Here's a simple guide to help you understand how residency works in Cyprus, and what options are available for both EU and non-EU citizens.

Cyprus Residency

What Is Cyprus Permanent Residency?

Residency Options for EU Citizens

If you’re an EU national, the process is very straightforward. You can apply for a temporary residency permit (commonly known as the Yellow Slip), which is valid for five years. Once you’ve lived in Cyprus continuously for those five years, you become eligible to apply for permanent residency.

Residency Options for Non-EU Citizens

For non-EU nationals, there are a choice of permits available to gain residency in Cyprus depending on your circumstances.

1. Property Investment (Fast Track Residency)

One of the most popular and efficient routes is to purchase property in Cyprus worth at least €300,000. This fast-track option typically takes around six months and can include your immediate family members. The permit does not expire, making it a great long-term solution. There are prerequisites for this permit which must be met to achieve eligibility. We can explain the process and requirements to you in full if this is an option you are considering to gain residency on the island. If preferred we can refer you to an immigration specialist who can further assist you. Please contact us for more information.

2. Other Pathways to Permanent Residency

Non-EU citizens can also qualify by:

Investing a minimum of €300,000 in a Cypriot company or investment fund.

Owning a company registered with the Migration Department.

Securing permanent employment in Cyprus.

Being married to a Cypriot citizen – this also applies to minor children from a previous marriage, and even the parents or in-laws of the Cypriot spouse.

Temporary Residency

The Pink Slip is a type of temporary residency permit for people from outside the EU who want to stay in Cyprus longer than 90 days. It lasts for one year and can be renewed every year.

However, you cannot work in Cyprus with this permit. You must show that you have enough money to support yourself and any family members living with you. If you leave Cyprus for more than 90 days, the permit is automatically cancelled.

There are 3 main types of temporary residency permits:

Visitor Visa – For:

  • Spouses, children, and parents-in-law of Cypriot citizens
  • Non-EU nationals and their family members who have enough money to live in Cyprus
  • People who enter Cyprus with special permission from a Cypriot consulate

Student Visa – For:

  • Non-EU students studying in Cyprus on long-term courses
  • Students approved by Cypriot embassies or the Migration Department

Employment Visa – For:

  • Non-EU nationals working for companies in Cyprus
  • Usually valid for up to 4 years (with some exceptions)

These options are perfect for those who want to enjoy the island’s lifestyle without pursuing employment locally.

There are also Digital Nomad visas for those working remotely.

  • Eligible permit holders must be employed in a company registered abroad, for which they can work location-independently, or are self-employed offering services remotely for clients located abroad.
  • They must be able to prove that they have stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3500 (after the deduction of contributions and taxes).

The Digital Nomad residence permit is valid for one year, with the possibility to renew for a further 2 years. The permit covers family members for the same period as the digital nomad, but they are not allowed to work in Cyprus and must apply for their own temporary residence permit.  Digital Nomads can become tax residents of Cyprus if they reside on the island for one or more periods that in total exceed 183 days within the same tax year, giving them additional benefits.
