Category F — Standard Permanent Residence

Category F is a more traditional permanent residency route and may suit applicants who do not wish to meet the investment threshold required under the fast-track scheme.

Applicants under Category F are usually required to:

Show they have suitable accommodation in Cyprus, without a minimum property value requirement;
Demonstrate annual income from abroad of approximately €15,000, plus €10,000 for each dependent;
Maintain a Cypriot bank account.

While the financial requirements are lower, processing times are considerably longer and currently range between 5 to 6 years.

Important Residency Consideration

It is important to understand that submitting a permanent residency application does not automatically grant the right to remain in Cyprus while the application is under review. Applicants must still hold a valid visa, residence permit, or other lawful basis of stay during the processing period.

Temporary Residency Could be the First Step

Achieving permanent residency status prior to your move is not the only available route to making Cyprus your home. Many non-EU nationals initially move to Cyprus using temporary residence permits, which can offer flexibility for remote workers, retirees, and individuals exploring relocation before committing permanently.

Visitor Permit (“Pink Slip”)

The Visitor Permit, commonly known as the “Pink Slip,” is a popular temporary residency option for non-EU nationals who have sufficient income from abroad and do not intend to work in Cyprus.

This permit is often chosen by retirees, property owners, and families spending extended periods in Cyprus. It is usually issued for one year and can be renewed annually. Applicants must generally demonstrate stable overseas income, local accommodation, private medical insurance, and a Cypriot bank account.

Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa

In recent years, Cyprus has also introduced a Digital Nomad Visa scheme aimed at remote workers and online entrepreneurs. The programme allows non-EU and non-EEA nationals to live in Cyprus while working remotely for employers or clients based abroad.

The Digital Nomad Visa is particularly attractive for professionals seeking a Mediterranean lifestyle while maintaining international business activities.

Applicants are generally required to:

Work remotely using telecommunications technology;
Be employed by a company registered outside Cyprus or provide services to overseas clients;
Demonstrate a minimum monthly income of approximately €3,500 net;
Hold private health insurance;
Provide a clean criminal record certificate.

The permit is typically granted for one year and may be renewed for up to three years in total. Family members can also accompany the main applicant under certain conditions.

Whether applying for permanent or temporary residency, applicants will usually need to prepare:

Valid passports;
Bank statements and proof of income;
Medical insurance;
Criminal record certificates;
Property documents or rental agreements;
Marriage and birth certificates where applicable.

Documents issued abroad generally need to be apostilled or legalised and officially translated into Greek or English.
