The Biggest Run for Autism Yet Brings Global Support to Ayia Napa

 

Having just wrapped up the 5^th Run for Autism Half Marathon in Ayia Napa, we are thrilled to say, it was our biggest and best yet! What an incredible day - the atmosphere, the energy, and the level of support for such a meaningful cause, never fails to amaze us.

This year was especially memorable, with support and participation from both the Mayor of Ayia Napa and the President of the Republic of Cyprus. Seeing such recognition from key figures has been hugely important for Autism Support Famagusta, helping to raise awareness for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.

 

 

 

Run for Autism remains the only charity event in Cyprus where every euro raised goes directly to the cause, made possible entirely by volunteers. Funds support the Smile Project - a day centre for adults on the spectrum that offers guidance, promotes independence, and provides much-needed respite for caregivers. Autism support in general hasn’t received the attention it deserves in recent years, but thanks to continued efforts and events like this, that’s beginning to change.

 

 

The event also welcomed a number of top athletes, adding to the excitement of the day. Honorary guests such as Panagiotis Karaiskos, Dimitris Tzefalis, Maria Kanaki and Georgios Savvides took part in individual events, with Panagiotis Karaiskos setting a new record for the men’s 10km, and the previous 10km record holder, Giorgos Tofi, broke a new record for the men’s 5km!

With over 4,500 runners from 56 countries taking part, the event has truly become an international celebration. We couldn’t be prouder of what it’s grown into.

Μόλις ολοκληρώθηκε ο 5ος Ημιμαραθώνιος Run for Autism στην Αγία Νάπα και είμαστε ενθουσιασμένοι που μπορούμε να πούμε πως ήταν ο μεγαλύτερος και καλύτερος μέχρι σήμερα! Ήταν μια πραγματικά απίστευτη μέρα. Η ατμόσφαιρα, η ενέργεια και το επίπεδο υποστήριξης για έναν τόσο σημαντικό σκοπό δεν παύουν ποτέ να μας εντυπωσιάζουν.

Φέτος ήταν ιδιαίτερα ξεχωριστή χρονιά, με τη στήριξη τόσο του Δημάρχου Αγίας Νάπας όσο και του Προέδρου της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας. Η αναγνώριση αυτή από σημαντικές προσωπικότητες είναι ανεκτίμητη για το Σωματείο Στήριξης Αυτισμού Αμμοχώστου, συμβάλλοντας ουσιαστικά στην ευαισθητοποίηση για τα άτομα στο φάσμα του αυτισμού και τις οικογένειές τους.

Το Run for Autism παραμένει η μοναδική φιλανθρωπική διοργάνωση στην Κύπρο όπου κάθε ευρώ που συγκεντρώνεται πηγαίνει απευθείας στον σκοπό, με τη στήριξη αποκλειστικά εθελοντών. Τα έσοδα στηρίζουν το Smile Project, ένα κέντρο ημέρας για ενήλικες στο φάσμα του αυτισμού, που προσφέρει καθοδήγηση, ενισχύει την ανεξαρτησία και παρέχει πολύτιμη ανακούφιση στους φροντιστές. Η στήριξη για τον αυτισμό γενικότερα δεν έχει λάβει την προσοχή που της αξίζει τα τελευταία χρόνια, αλλά χάρη σε συνεχείς προσπάθειες και διοργανώσεις όπως αυτή, η κατάσταση αρχίζει να αλλάζει.
